“First Stop… Beacon in Dutchess County, NY!” Just an hour and a half train ride from Grand Central Station on the Metro-North will leave you in the bucolic Hudson Valley. There are plenty of things to do in Beacon such as hiking, art galleries, shopping and dining. You can start off by visiting the Dia: Beacon, Riggio Galleries Museum. The museum is walking distance from the train and situated on the banks of the Hudson River. Also, a short walk away from the train will bring you to Main Street where you will find plenty of cute shops and restaurants. I scored a deal on a wool jacket at American Gypsy Vintage while my husband managed to add to our vinyl collection after browsing through the selection at a local record store.
If you are interested in staying overnight, there are a few hotel options. We stopped for a cocktail at The Beacon Hotel, a 12-room hotel located right on Main Street. I didn’t have an opportunity to see the rooms but the hospitality provided in their main restaurant was a good sign. A few other options worth looking into, The Roundhouse & The Inn & Spa at Beacon.
